HEALTH IMPORTANT TIPS: LIVER / BRAIN DAMAGE, TOP CANCER CAUSING FOOD

The top five cancer-causing foods are:
1. Hot dogs  Because they are high in nitrates, the Cancer Prevention Coalition advises that children eat no more than 12 hot dogs a month. If you can't live without hot dogs, buy those made without sodium nitrate.

2. Processed meats and bacon Also high in the same sodium nitrates found in hot dogs, bacon, and other processed meats raise the risk of heart disease. The saturated fat in bacon also contributes to cancer.

3. Doughnuts Doughnuts are cancer-causing double trouble. First, they are made with white flour, sugar, and hydrogenated oils, then fried at high temperatures. Doughnuts, says Adams , may be the worst food you can possibly eat to raise your risk of cancer.

4. French fries Like doughnuts, French fries are made with hydrogenated oils and then fried at high temperatures. They also contain cancer- causing acryl amides which occur during the frying process. They should be called cancer fries, not French fries, said Adams

5. Chips, crackers, and cookies All are usually made with white flour and sugar. Even the ones whose labels claim to be free of trans-fats generally contain small amounts of trans-fats.

SAVING YOURSELF FROM UNNECESSARY SPENDING

If you are planning to save a hefty amount of cash then make sure that you keep control on your expenses. You should always remember this quote “To have money is good; to have control of money is better”. If you have a habit of reckless spending then you might get trapped in to the maze of debt. The following ways would help you to put a bridle on your expenses.

So these are the few tips that would help you to save money from unnecessary spending. Follow these steps in order to make your future financially secured:
1. Avoid using plastic money: Plastic money is basically hassle free so people are fond of displaying it in their wallet. The card tempts you to indulge in to extravagance. If you want to curtail the habit of over expenses then make sure that you avoid the use of card and keep a limited amount of cash. You can get a basic idea of the amount you have spent. The card allures

5 NEW YEAR'S CAREER RESOLUTIONS FOR 2011

There's just something about opening a calendar for a new year that inspires us to improve our lives. So it's no surprise that New Year's career resolutions often focus on big goals--such as a promotion or a new job.

And that's why many resolutions get tossed aside by the second week in January, according to Tracy Brisson, founder and CEO of The Opportunities Project. "We get overwhelmed when we realize that outcomes are not always in our control," she explains. But Brisson says that there are plenty of attainable goals--such as adding people to your network or committing to read one business-related book per month--that can add up to career success.

SALARY SECRETS YOUR EMPLOYER DOESN'T WANT YOU TO KNOW

In down economic times, companies seem to have carte blanche to limit salaries and make low-ball offers. But that shouldn't be the case.
Below are the top salary secrets your employer doesn't want you to know. With this information in hand, you'll be in a better position to get the pay you deserve.

Employers don't always offer a fair salary
Some employers think they're being fair, but they're not up-to-date with the latest salary information. Others may try to pay less than the market value because they're financially strapped. That's why it's important that you know exactly how much money you should be making. A free salary report can help you calculate how much you should be earning in any job.

You can negotiate your salary in a tight job market
In a recession, many people would rather take a pay cut than lose their jobs. Raises are hard to come by and new hires may feel they have less negotiating power. But that doesn't mean it's impossible to bump up your salary; it's just a little more challenging.

30112010 YOU & The LAW (KSA / KUWAIT / QATAR / UAE)

KSA – I have been working for a company for four years. I want to know how would my end-of-service benefits (ESB) be calculated if I resign now. Secondly, what is the rule for returning to Saudi Arabia to work for another company in the same or a slightly different profession? Is there a need for a no-objection certificate (NOC) for the new visa?
As you have worked here for four years the end of your contract is the expiration date of your work permit, not the period of time written in your contract. Therefore,  for legal termination you must wait until the expiration date of your work visa.
The ESB is calculated on the basis of the last monthly wage (LMW), which is salary plus all other allowances. You get half of your LMW for each of the first five years of your employment. You get a proportional amount of your LMW for any incomplete year.

FILIPINOS IN UAE STRUGGLE WITH BI' NEW SPONSORSHIP REQUIREMENTS

Hundreds line up in front of the Philippine Consulate to get their paperwork done
Re-introduction of unpopular requirement for Filipinos sponsoring relatives causes a great deal of inconvenience.

Dubai: It's 6.30am and Flor, a Filipina airline executive in her 36th week of pregnancy, is outside the gates of the Philippine Consulate at Al Ghusais, Dubai.

She is not alone. There are another 100 people waiting outside. The queue gets longer by the hour and swells up to 300 people by 8.30am when the gates open. By then, three lines have formed outside the gate, but no one from the Consulate ventures out.

Such scenes, normally witnessed only during amnesty periods, are now a regular feature outside the Consulate — thanks to the Bureau of Immigration (BI) authorities in Manila re-introducing the affidavit of support requirement in September for Filipinos sponsoring relatives visiting Dubai.

Time-consuming affair
"I didn't know it takes two weeks to get this simple paperwork done. By then I would have delivered my baby," said Flor, who was there with regard to her mother's visit. "My mum should have been here. There was no prior announcement, no mention of this requirement on its site," she said.

THE "Be" ATTITUDES

84 OFW cleaners in UAE claim exploitation

ABS-CBN NEWS: 84 OFW cleaners in UAE claim exploitation
AJMAN, United Arab Emirates - More than 80 Filipino workers have taken up legal action against their employer who abandoned them in Ajman.

The case filed by the 84 school cleaners against the Lovito Cleaning Services before the Ministry of Labor was elevated to the Dubai Labor Court. The Philippine Overseas Labor Office-Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (POLO-OWWA) is now following up the case.

“Kini-case namin iyon. Ituloy ang case, i-update sila sa mga mangyayari kasi inaantay nila ang judgment. 'Yon lang ang makakapag-palaya sa amin sa penalty at makakapag-desisyon kung ano talaga ang para sa amin, kung dapat pa ba kaming magtrabaho o pauwiin na nila kami,” said one of the workers, Ma. Elena Amba.

The workers claimed their employer failed to pay them their wages for several months and then abandoned them.

“Ang trabaho namin school cleaner. Nakasaad po doon, 8 hours magtatrabaho; overtime, [may] bayad. Matatanggap na sahod, 1,700 Dirhams. Libre accommodation. Pero nong dumating, 700 lang ang sweldo. At nag-e-excess sa maximum na oras na dapat pasukan, hindi bayad. At pag nagkasakit, obligado pa na magpagamot sa sarili,” said Cindy Rodriguez.

30102010 YOU & The LAW (KSA / QATAR / UAE)

QATAR – A person says that he travelled to Qatar to work in a hairdresser’s salon with a contract. However, after two months the sponsor asked him to find a job in some other place. He could not find a job or a new sponsor. Therefore, he left Qatar. He does not have a residence permit in his passport. He asks if it is permissible for him to enter the country again or must he spend at least two years to be able to enter the country again?
The law No. 4/2009 on the organisation of entry and exit of expatriates, their residence and sponsorship indicates that the sponsor should end the proceedings and renovation of residence within a period not exceeding 9 days from the date of termination.
It also stipulates that a worker cannot be granted a visa for two years after leaving Qatar.
By applying this in this case, we find that this person did not get a residence permit in Qatar and he left the country within the grace period. She can enter Qatar anytime without applying the two-year condition.

84 PINAY WORKERS IN UAE LEFT WITH NO FOOD, NO SALARY SINCE JULY 2010

Merly Perez, centre, along with her co-workers of Lavito Building Cleaning Services sit in their company villa in Ajman on Sunday. Amy Leang / The National

Last year, our sister publication XPRESS reported the case of the 137 Filipino drivers who were duped by recruiters and made to live in a dump in Ajman, an emirate outside Dubai.

Over a year after, the same paper has again stumbled on the case of the 84 Filipina workers who were left unpaid after working as cleaners (janitress) for almost one year and were dumped in a villa in Ajman (an emirate outside Dubai) with no food, no water and electricity. Unbearable weather conditions forced most of them to sleep on the villa’s roof deck. It’s possible that the women may be unknowingly using treated sewage water to shower and to wash their clothes, which explains why some of them have skin problems....

4 SISTER HAVE 4 BABIES IN 4 DAYS

Four sisters from one family have each given birth within four days. That's four sisters, four babies, four days.

The same obstetrician delivered the babies of three of the sisters - 27-year-old Lilian Sepulveda, 29-year-old Saby Pazos and 24-year-old Leslie Pazos - in the same suburban Chicago hospital on Friday and Saturday.

A fourth sister, Heidi Lopez, gave birth on Monday in California.

Family members said the women didn't plan the timing.

Obstetrician Dr. Jean Alexandre, who delivered the three babies in suburban Chicago, calls the births "very unusual but wonderful at the same time."

13 STEPS YOU CAN TAKE TO PREVENT CANCER

Written by Dr. Ben Kim
The purpose of this article is to outline 13 ways that you can decrease your risk of developing any type of cancer. The following 13 ways to prevent cancer are presented in no particular order:

1. If you are going to be sexually active, be in a mutually monogamous relationship with a partner who is not infected by human papilloma virus (HPV)
Genital HPV infection is a sexually transmitted disease that is caused by the human papilloma virus. There are actually more than 100 strains of the human papilloma virus, some of which can lead to cancer of the cervix, vagina, vulva, anus, or penis.
If you are sexually active and are not in a mutually monogamous relationship, I recommend that you learn more about HPV through various online resources. A clear and simple outline on HPV can be found at the Centers For Disease Control And Prevention website.
I encourage women who belong in this category to have a Pap test on an annual basis. I believe that Pap tests can be extremely useful for sexually active women who have had multiple partners or a partner who has had multiple partners because surgical excision of pre-cancerous and cancerous cells of the cervix is one of the safest and most effective procedures performed by the medical profession. I have worked with dozens of women over the years who have benefited from this procedure.

2. Eat lots of plant foods, mainly organic vegetables, legumes, whole grains, and fruits
Plant foods provide an abundance of antioxidants and fiber, both of which are known to reduce the risk of developing several different types of cancer.
Vegetables and fruits reduce the risk of developing cancers of the lung, stomach, esophagus, and larynx, while legumes and grains may help to reduce the risk of developing cancers of the stomach and pancreas.
There are five major groups of cancer-fighting compounds in fruits and vegetables: isothiocyanates, indols, cumines, phenols, and flavones.....
